About the Story
2012 A Sequence of Days is a young adult science fiction action adventure story. It's about a high school senior who gets caught up in a top secret world of inventors. Together they must decipher clues to help them unlock the ancient Mayan calendar prophecies, in order to save the world from a strange pandemic.
I got the idea for this story, while on a Royal Caribbean cruise in 2007. One of our stops was Mexico and we took two excursions; one to the ruins of Tulum and the other to Chichen Itza. It was at Chichen Itza at the Mayan ball court, when I looked at the Mayan stone wall carving there of the headless player with snakes coming out of his head that I got the idea. I went back to the ‘Schooner Bar’ on board ship and wrote down everything I learned from both my tours, eventually outlining the whole book over a few beers.
Instead of page numbers, I decided to use the Mayan numerals to separate the various chapters. While I don’t really explain that in a suffix at the back of the book, I am hoping that at some time during the reader’s experience, they learn to count in Mayan. Using the Mayan glyphs as chapter headings, made it difficult for me to make the Table of Contents “Go To” button work on the Kindle, but I hope the effect is worth it.
